Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 07:58 Art is nothing if it is not beautiful and beauty is nothing if it is not true. Hence most contemporary artistic endeavour falls short; truth in modern public discourse is thin on the ground and art created outwith the sphere of public discourse is most often a mere curiosity.
This is also one of the reasons for my own current stagnation. There is little beauty to my current truth. There is a welcome functionality, but it lacks the intensity required to create anything worthwhile. Sketches and fragments, yes, but without the fire the crucible remains just a prosaic bowl of dust and tears.
This is all in the nature of things, and in itself no cause for alarm.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and cannot be described as true. Discuss.
I'd have to agree that much contemporary art is a load of sh*t, sometimes literally.
